Equipping for Self-Reliance

• Faith: Biblical values, Godly self-image, the Gospel • Family: Unity, Biblical roles of family members, Love & Respect • Finance: Budgeting, saving, tithing, giving skills • Farming: 40-100% yield increase, no fertilizer

Guided by Matthew 25:35, our Training program empowers villages with faith, family, finance, and farming skills, building self-reliance through proven methods and mentorship.

Inspired by Matthew 25:35 (“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat”), the "I Was Hungry" training equips communities to break the cycle of poverty through four interconnected pillars:

Faith, Family, Finance and Farming

Delivered over two weeks with two-year mentorship and three Lead Farmers per village, we partner with Foundations for Farming and Crown Financial Ministries to spread practical, life-changing skills across Malawi, fostering enduring independence. We call this initiative “I was hungry”

FAITH: We instill biblical values to cultivate a Godly self-image and heart transformation, reflecting Christ’s character. Training sessions emphasize stewardship and purpose, helping participants see themselves as capable agents of change. By grounding their work in faith, farmers and families build resilience against challenges like poverty and witchcraft, fostering hope that extends to their communities. The faith focus clearly lays out the Gospel message and challenges everyone to trust Christ as their savior.

FAMILY: The program strengthens family units through teachings on unity and resilience, rooted in biblical principles. Participants learn to prioritize communication and mutual support, creating stable households that withstand economic pressures. This focus ensures that families work together to apply farming and financial skills, building a foundation for generational impact.

FINANCE: Through the African Money Map from Crown Financial Ministries, offered in Chichewa and Swahili, we teach budgeting, saving, giving, and avoiding debt. Using relatable, biblically rooted stories, the program equips participants to manage income from crop sales or wages effectively. These skills enable families to plan for the future, tithe to local churches, and invest in education or small businesses.

FARMING: The Pfumvudza model from Foundations for Farming empowers farmers to boost yields by 40-100% on small plots (¹⁄₁₆ hectare) using no plowing, mulching, and crop rotation, requiring only a hoe. This low-cost method transforms subsistence farming into a source of food security and surplus for sale, enabling farmers to feed their families and contribute to local markets.
