Producing Food for Malawi
• Tomatoes: 602 Tons • Onions: 52Tons • Seasonal Grains: 206 Tons • 38 Acres Farmed, 24 Irrigated • 900m² Processing Facility
Abundant crop production contributes to Malawi’s year-round food security, contributing to Malawi’s overall GDP, supporting a pathway to Malawi’s financial independence.
Since our inception Namikango Farm has produced over 890 metric tons of food and grains. Included in this is over 150 tons of certified seed. The production of quality certified seed is critical to any country's ability to produce high yields of quality grains well into the future. We have partnered with the government to produce and sell high-quality certified seed.
Tomatoes are a main staple food item for Malawi. However, tomatoes are very difficult to grow consistently. We have become one of Malawi’s largest outdoor growers of tomatoes. Our future plans include expanding our capability with the implementation of Agriculture controlled environment (ACE). The ACE greenhouses will enable us to mitigate environmental risks and improve consistency, quality, and improve output. If you are interesting in helping us with our implementation of ACE, please consider investing in this technology (See our partnering investing page here).
We recently purchased a tomato packaging company. This moves us up the value chain with increased margin. Very few companies can or package foods in Malawi. This capability is opening up many new opportunities for increased revenue and higher margin. We are exploring other vegetables and processed foods like sweet corn, mangoes, and tomato puree. We have obtained funding and are currently building a manufacturing facility on our campus.
